Belated Weekend Box Office #197

I'm sure I would have predicted everything perfectly, if I'd bothered to make predictions.

I actually saw a couple of movies this weekend. I saw THE WRONG GUYS, which is sort of dumb and forgettable, in a funny-while-I-was-there sort of way. Entertaining enough for what it is, and it opened at number 1, making around $35 million for the weekend.

On the other end of the spectrum, I also saw FLIPPED, Rob Reiner's newest movie, which they only released in three areas (though in L.A. they seemed to be advertising the hell out of it). It's a very small, appealing movie, much more of a period romantic teen drama than it is really a comedy. Wall-to-wall alternating voiceovers, but somehow it worked. Unfortunately, it's hard to know what the audience for this is, and I don't think it's going to find; I have a feeling it's not going to get much of a nationwide release. Still, it's worth checking out on cable.

I laughed so hard at THE OTHER GUYS in the first half hour. I can't remember the last time I laughed that hard in the theater.

Saw "Dinner for Smucks" yesterday. It was pretty fun. But then again Steve Carrel is a comedic genius. LOVE HIM!

Scott. Love your posts. Went to see Rob Reiner's movie based on your comments. Glad I did because it didn't get wide release for some reason. Sweet movie that moved me a few times. Please keep your posts coming!
