Okay, Ouch --

TWILIGHT: NEW MOON made $140 million over the weekend, the third best opening weekend ever, after setting a single day record on Friday.

Apparently there are a lot of teenage girls with a lot of disposable income, even in this economy.

Time for everyone to write teen vampire movies....

Jeez. So you predict a teen vamp spec script mushroom cloud to rise over Hollywood?

I don't exactly despise these films, in fact I have nothing but respect for the author of the novels and the filmmakers for absolutely having their thumb on the pulse of their female tween/teen audience. There's some almost otherworldly prescience going on here in that these people have created a veritable cultural tidal wave and good for them.

But do you think this will translate into dozens of copycats and wanna-be's? Certainly history would dictate such a fate but I just can't fathom endless retreads of Twilight and New Moon.

Perhaps I'm totally off the mark though.

If that's the case, I'm adding fangs to at least two characters in a John Hughes inspired screenplay of mine before the night is out!

If they are teenage black overweight vampires with abusive mothers who are trying to save the world from ending in 2012, you'll hit the Trifecta.

Sure teen girls made up a bulk of this, but A LOT of MOMS around here were going to see it, too, so I think it's just females in general.
