Weekend Boxoffice #9
Early this week, because of the holiday.
5-day weekends are extremely hard to predict, but I'll do my best.
DECK THE HALLS (3205 screens). Matthew Broderick is finally starting to look his age (87?) and when exactly was the last time Danny Devito made a funny movie? Still, it'll probably do a little family business. $21.7 for the 5 days.
DEJA VU (3168 screens). I'm not sure they've really figured out how to sell this, and its going to compete for the same audience as Bond, but they'll both probably do fine. $39.8 first 5 days.
TENACIOUS D (1919 screens). Hard to say, though I don't think it'll be too huge. $13.3 million.
THE FOUNTAIN (1472 screens). I've heard great things about this movie, and terrible things, and not much in-between. I think it'll get lost in the shuffle. $12.2 million.
My guess for the top 6 for Wednesday - Sunday:
HAPPY FEET $52.1 million
CASINO ROYALE $49.6 million
DEJA VU $39.8 million
DECK THE HELLS $21.7 million
TENACIOUS D $13.3 million
THE FOUNTAIN $12.2 million
I'm probably wrong. Tell me where, and make your own guesses.

Wow. I won't even try to guess this weekend.
The last funny Danny Devito movie was Death to Smoochy. I loved that movie.
Don't forget that Tenacious D sold 2 million copies of their first album. That doesn't even count all of the people that downloaded it illegally or picked up a song or two from iTunes.
I think that the D could really make a mark this weekend.
Happy Feet is kicking ass and will be #1, I saw the early numbers. It looks like this so far (for five days(:
Happy - 50-52 million
Casino - 45.8
Deja Vu - 30
Borat - 16-18
Deck - 15-18
Santa 3 - 14-16
Ten D - 9
Fountain - 6 (OUCH!)
Sunday's official 5-day estimates:
Happy Feet $51 million
Casino Royale $45 million
Deja Vu $29 million
Deck the Halls $16.8 million
The Fountain $5.4 million
Tenacious D $5.2 million
So I managed to over-estimate everything, even more the farther I went down. The Fountain and Tenacious D look like major flops. I liked Deja Vu, and it might do some word of mouth.
