Just Got Some Nicholl Fellowship Love...

Just learned my script made the quarterfinal round. Top 321 of 6398.

Except for a nip here and a tuck there, it's the same script that semi'd three years ago (which was the only other time I entered the Nicholl). But given the stories of scripts getting very different results in very different years, I wasn't taking anything for granted.

Best wishes to those of you who made the cut as well, and to those who didn't, I'm sure you should have :-)

Congradulations, Scott, what an accomplishment!

I think I've sent in script to the Nicholls for the last 5-6 years (except this year) never gotten anything but a rejection letter (frownie face).

Dude, this could be it for you. Wasn't the author of "Little Miss Sunshine" an assistant? I think more and more assistants are getting script sales -- and, baby, you're next in line!!

What was this Nicholl's award winning script about anyway? So that chicken hasn't been hatched yet -- doesn't mean it's not going to be hatched, right?! Now we all know it's got a better than a 1 in 312 chance...

That's app. 1400 more entries than in 2006, so it's a good start.

Congratulations and good luck going forward.

Wait a minute there.

Hey, Scott, I just found out a PS. at the end of my e-mail.

"You just missed! Your script was among the next 100 entries after the Quarterfinalists."

So, there is hope. Not this year, not with Nicholl, but there is hope for that script [E].

Congrats.
I've given up on contests as very few scripts that win ever do anything in the theater. That's where I want to succeed. Not to take anything away from your accomplishment though.

I'd love to read your script.

Congrats, man. That first cut is brutal.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I'm in this year as well.

Congrats, man!

This is my first year entering, and I made it into the top 15% -- not a QF, but not bad for a first-time second-draft entry!

PS: I should also mention that I entered on the last possible day... and I cheated the margins a little due to a weird conversion from an earlier version of Final Draft.

I wonder what would have happened had those two things not been in play...

Congrats, Scott. I read the script, and I really like it (enough that I read it in one sitting). Good luck in the further rounds -- it'd be cool if we both wound up at least finaling the same year, but that's a bit of a longshot.

E.C.: Michael Arndt was indeed an assistant earlier in his career.

Hello!

Just found this googling Nicholl and wanted to say that I am also a quarterfinalist. Good luck!

Scott, did you receive notification by e-mail or letter? I'm becoming very alarmed because I have received neither. The Nicholl website says they notified everyone by e-mail. I know my entry went through because I got an entry number from them.

Everyone was notified by e-mail. You're the first person I've heard of not to get a notification.
