Weekend Box Office #103

I'm in a funk, but I'm trying to get over it and post more regularly.

Opening wide this weekend:

EAGLE EYE (3510 theaters). They are pouring a lot of money into advertising, and though reviews have been mixed, there's not much out there to compete with it. Prediction: $18.6 million for the weekend.

NIGHTS IN RODANTHE (2704 theaters). As likable as Richard Gere and Diane Lane are, I feel like I've seen the movie just by watching the commercials. It does skew to an underserved older audience, but they may be home watching the debate tonight. $8.5 million.

MIRACLE AT ST. ANNA (1185 theaters). It's 2 hours 40 minutes long, and most reviews say it's dull. $5.9 million.

FIREPROOF (839 theaters). I have no real idea what this is about, other than that it stars Kirk Cameron as a fireman. $700,000.

Opening on between 100 and 500 screens: CHOKE and THE LUCKY ONES. CHOKE looks interesting; if anyone sees it, drop a comment.

******

Last weekend, LAKEVIEW TERRACE made $15.o million, MY BEST FRIEND'S GIRL did $8.3 million, IGOR did $7.8 million, and GHOST TOWN limped in with $5 million.

So I was actually ballpark, first time in a while.

Sorry 'bout the funk, Scott. Nice to listen to the "funk" (cute 70s music reference). NOT so good to actually be in one. Since this is YOUR blog you should post on what you're passionate about. What do you like the most, anyway? I've been reading your blog for a while, yet you're still quite the mystery to me.

How closely related are Richard Gere and Dick Clark? Richard Gere looks the same as he did back in the 80s when he broke on the scene. But I guess we should all be so bless to age so gracefully...

Fireproof looks so dumb and stupid. Kirk Cameron is a crap actor. Eagle Eye looks lame as well. Miracle at St. Ana's supposed to open soon, I look forward to seeing that one.

You're in a funk?

You're in a FUNK?

You're in a F * U * N * K ?

C'mon, man, you're not supposed to be in a funk.

Mountains are passing away these days. Who's gonna take their place?

Jot down once again your priorities, and decide accordingly.

Things you should mind:

A) You cannot wait another year before you crank out another 25 pages of your script. The live-readers at the theatre would kill you.
[It's like telling a joke and stopping in the middle]

B) They cannot always bury you with work! Working hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 to 12:00 AM - 14:00 to 18:00 PM.
The rest of the time is yours to burn!

C) What better chance to view for the umpteenth time "THE BIG CHILL"?

Thoughtfully.

M.
