Weekend Box Office #98
Ah, the dog days of August. The big blockbusters are starting to fade away, and the other movies are coming out.
THE ROCKER (2784 theaters). Apparently this is a bit too reminiscent of "School of Rock", while I'm not sure enough people out there want two hours of Rainn Wilson, who seems like he is best in small doses. Prediction: $8.2 million.
THE HOUSE BUNNY (2714 theaters). Though this got a decent review in the LA Times, I'm not sure who the audience is; it looks too tame for guys, while it doesn't seem to have enough of a hook for girls. $7.7 million.
DEATH RACE (2531 theaters). Meanwhile, this is where all the guys will be. $21.8 million.
THE LONGSHOTS (2089 theaters). This has a weird pedigree -- it stars Ice Cube, it is directed by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, it was written by a writer from the Sopranos, and it's a family comedy about a girl playing football? $5.6 million.

Good job with witt, Scott. This weeks offerings needs it. But they needed a touch of Mullen MANY, MANY months ago. Totally skippable lot, but (thanks to you, Scott) totally enjoyable post.

EC, you are a fucking moron.
I wish Jason Statham would choose roles where he gets to act. It's labor Day weekend, for crying out loud, and this is what we get?
Emily - next weekend is Labor Day weekend. This is the weekend BEFORE Labor Day.
Anna Faris kicked ass this weekend. Who thought the House Bunny would bring in $14.5 million over the weekend. Go bunny!
I think there's a very good reason why Statham doesn't choose roles where he gets to act. And that reason would be that he can't act, or at least he hasn't chosen to yet. Make sense?
He's played the same character in everything from Lock Stock, to the very good film The Bank Job to Crank and those two other silly actioners he did.
He has charisma, he's Bruce Willis minus the great comic timing. He's a stunt man with charm.
The weekend that connects to the day you have off is the holiday weekend. That's why it's a holiday weekend - you have a day off.
Umm...I don't want to get into logistics here but Labor Day isn't until next Monday, unless I'm wrong about that. AFTER next weekend. I find it hard to believe that the weeknend all the way BEFORE Labor Day even happens is considered Labor Day Weekend.
Where I live, the kids get out of school next week for a day. That's Labor Day Weekend.

Next weekend is Labor Day weekend, Emily. Stop worrying about being right all the time.
You know, Matt, if you had just said your piece and let it go I'd be fine. I would have said, Oops, I guess you're right.
But since you had to make a dickhead comment, you can go blow yourself.
Hey Anonymous, grow a pair and say that to my face.
Also, this coming Monday is Labor Day. Check a calendar. Labor day is September 1.
If only I could blow myself, but my beautiful wife will have to do.
Also, let's be clear, you said THIS weekend that we just had was Labor Day Weekend. It's next weekend. That makes you wrong.
My comment was only a dickhead comment because you can't stand being told you're wrong. I feel I was quite restrained in what I said.
"Also, this coming Monday is Labor Day. Check a calendar. Labor day is September 1."
Do you really still think you're right?
I hope your response will be along these lines. "Okay, yes, I was wrong. And yeah, your comment really wasn't bad, I just took it too personally. My bad."
The chances of that happening are about the same as me being able to blow myself.
Oh seriously? Is THAT what you think I said?
Oooooooooh.
I see my mistake.
I read Scott's post on Monday so I thought he was posting about THIS weekend. I didn't look at the date he posted and I didn't check this blog all last weekend and I paid no attention to what opened last weekend.
So we ARE all talking about the same weekend, I just didn't realize the movies were from last weekend.
Well that explains that. I was wondering why you were being such an ass when the date is pretty much an unmovable object.
Is this really an argument about Labor Day?
I see Emily's point and stand by her 100%.
(Guys, it doesn't matter. Emily's hot, she wins). Let it go!
In hindsight, maybe Mr Gore should never have gifted us with the Inter-Webs.
Mankind was clearly not ready for such power. Womankind neither probably.
Oh, the tragedy.
Really Anonymous, are you a writer? Because you're like the 876th person to bring up Dangerous Minds to me. That movie is silly in the first place, but come on, dude, if you're trying think of an insult 1) make sure it's actually insulting and 2) be more creative.

Emily, I think you should be nicer to anonymous. Scott's comment section is probably the only way he ever gets to talk to girls.
On second thought, don't, he might already believe he's courting you.
True, eddie. So true.
Sticking by the hot comment.
Can we debate Halloween next? Bastille Day?

Patrick I love the French and I support Bastille Day, I don't care what you say.
And thanks for the compliment.
This dude who doesn't have the balls to even give himself a fake name is just a worthless troll so I'm not too worried about him. I was much more concerned with Matt's opinion, but that's been resolved.
This was all a silly conversation anyway. My point is, last weekend's movie selection sucked.
Unless I'm mistaken, Emily used to have ''another'' hot picture of herself... ;)
Hey, '' '' was meant to be italics, not sarcasm. Damn my Wikipedia mark-up.
Happy Labor/Labour day everyone...
Has anyone seen Vicky Christina Barcelona yet? And if so, is it worth it? I don't know if I can handle another Scoop/Match Point.
