Happy New Year...

Nothing new is opening wide this week, so it's just a matter of catching up on everything old in theaters.

Feel free to post opinions of anything you see this week.

Otherwise, onward into the new year :-)

Did you ever mention Revolutionary Road (went wide Dec 26th)? It won't do a huge box office, but SF's big film critic said it's the best film he saw this year. Sounds like the type of film that will be nominated for lots of awards.

I saw Benjamin Button today and enjoyed it immensely.

Scott,

The "Seattle Times" only listed one new movie opening this weekend, "Revolutionary Road" (Kate Winslet, Leonardo DeCaprio). But watching these two get sappy again in a stuggling marrage for two hours sounds like a snoozer to me...

Did see "Slumdog Millionare" last weekend. And as soon as it was over I actually WANTED to pay and see it again. IF you haven't seen "Slumdog Millionare," you really need to. Best movie of '08. And who knew Indian techno music could sound so good?! THAT is the biggest pleasant suprise/coup of any movie in '08 -- if you asked me.
Saw "Australia" last weekend too. It was OK, but it felt a little too "stand pat"/excesively sweet for my taste. Love the pairing of Jackman/Kidman as romantic couple, but their romance was missing something...

Hope your 2009 is going good so far. Made any writing/career goals for '09?

Actually, Revolutionary Road is still in fairly limited release; I don't think it's going wide wide wide for another 3 weeks yet. And reviews have been mixed; apparently it's long and slow.

Saw Benjamin Button in a sold out theater, but since that theater was the Grove it's impossible to use that as a measure of success.

Damn good film, that. I don't see how anybody could get through that movie without crying.
