Weekend Boxoffice #12

Three solid box office openers this weekend. Though none will probably break $30 million for their first three days, all should perform well.

CHARLOTTE'S WEB (3566 screens). It has a lot of name value, but it also looks like it skews very much toward little kids, while the fact that this is a holiday shopping weekend could hurt it. Call it $24.8 million, though it should do well in the long run.

ERAGON (3020 screens). The dragon effects look good, and this was a best-selling book, so it'll challenge for first, and maybe even take it. Call it $26.3 million.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (2852 screens). Destined to have a generation of people to spell happiness wrong. But it's Will Smith, it looks uplifting and it's the only one my wife wants to see. $23.0 million... But it could surprise everyone and come in first.

Predictions? Which of these are you likely to see?

Pursuit of Happyness, hands down.

And then, Eragon

I won't see any of them - I'm renting the Devil Wears Prada. If I had to see one of them, it'd be the Will Smith one.

I'll be shocked if "Happyness" does 23m! (But then again, I'm shocked an awful lot when it comes to my box office predictions.)

If Happy Feet can beat Bond, it's going to be Charlotte's Web all the way.

At least $28M - $31M

I saw Pursuit. Smith is great in it but the movie isn't. The story beats are repetitive. But people are touting it - guess 'cause the poor man gets rich. Ho hum. It will get 2nd or 3rd. $18 - $22.

Eragon - 2nd or 3rd. $18 - $22.

Charlotte's Web. Solid reviews from what I've read. Parents will recall the book and little kids will probably want to go. $44 million.

Pursuit of Happyness. I've read solid reviews for this too, but wonder how the Fresh Prince is still packing 'em in. $18 million.

Eragon looks too intense for little kids and too lame for teenagers. The reviews have been terrible. $15 million.

None they all suck.

Claire Denis is God!

Why do you morons care about the box office?

You'll never see a dime of it....

Don,

First of all, it's fun to predict something so frivolous.

Now, will we see any of this money? No, idiot, because we did not make these movies. Duh.

BUT, the plan is, and this is why we're all trying to write our hearts out and do something that we LOVE, that maybe one day YOU will be reading about how OUR movies are ranking at the box office.

Oh, and you are a tool.

It's looking like this:

Happy - 25-28 million (Nice, Will!)
Eragorn - 23-26 million
Web - 11-13 million

Damn. My box office predictions suck.

Think I'm going to stick with nailing the number of ducks and turtles in people's homes. Turns out I'm really good at that.
