Today's Crouchy Goes To...

I almost didn't post this one, because it sounds made up. But it isn't, and it serves as a perfect reminder of why you should always proofread your script before giving it to anyone to read, particularly a reader who has a blog.

The context: a man, concerned about his friend's sexual excess, lectures him.

A better context: If I ever do a serial killer version of "Master and Commander", the line might work.

    One of my all-time favorite headlines is:

    Rusty zippers endanger seamen

    It was an article on how the Canadian Navy has to rely on old life preservers. I use it as an example in my classes.

    The Transportation Safety Board says Canadian mariners are being put at risk by a seemingly innocuous problem: corroded zippers.

    The board was probing the sinking of the BCM Atlantic. The factory-freezer fishing trawler, based in Nova Scotia, sank March 18 off Labrador after its hull was ripped open by a chunk of ice.

    All 26 aboard were rescued within four hours of abandoning ship, but three had trouble zipping their immersion suits. Routine lubrication could mean life or death, the board said.
